SOFT LENSES
Soft contact lenses are the most commonly prescribed type of contact lens. They are suitable for many people looking for a comfortable and convenient way to correct their vision. Designed for comfort and breathability, they let more oxygen reach your eyes, making them ideal for both daily and monthly use.
They can correct common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Soft contact lenses aren't suitable for everyone. If you have irregular corneas, complex astigmatism, or severe dry eyes, we'll recommend a different type of lens for better vision and long-term eye comfort.
Understanding Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a condition where the cornea, the clear front part of your eye, gradually thins and changes shape. Instead of staying round, it starts to bulge outward like a cone. This changes how light enters your eye, causing blurred or distorted vision that glasses often cannot fully correct.
The condition usually begins in the teenage years or early adulthood and can affect one or both eyes. Common signs include frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription, sensitivity to light, difficulty seeing at night, and eye rubbing that seems to make your vision worse over time. Because keratoconus develops slowly, many people don't realize they have it until their vision becomes harder to correct with regular lenses.
At Amanat Eye Hospital, we diagnose keratoconus early through detailed corneal mapping. Depending on how advanced the condition is, RGP or scleral lenses are often recommended, since they create a smooth surface over the irregular cornea and restore sharper vision. In some cases, we may also discuss options that help slow the condition's progression.
